It's that weekend all Radford Students look foreward to. With bands on the quad, RU students get to enjoy music and drinks for those of age...yes you guessed it... Quadfest. It's the one weekend of the year when it's unusual to see someone without a cup in their hands at 10 A.M. Many students like to share in this experience by inviting others to come down from other schools to experience a real Radford Quadfest. That is also the reason why Quadfest might be moved to an earlier date this year. With all the recent violence that has been currupting Radford, many feel that this is a good way to avoid more trouble. Due to the high numbers of people who come to visit Radford for Quadfest, a group of students, administrators, city officials and city and university police feel that because Quadfest is currently scheduled at the end of the year, more people are likely to come visit. The recent violence has been for the most part started by people who do not attend RU. In moving the date up to an earlier time in the semester, everyone is in hopes that it will reduce the risk of problems, and that it will in the end keep the students safe. Despite the many complaints that the committee has recieved about noise, it is felt that Quadfest has actually been better and more controlled the past two years. RU is simply trying to continue in this direction. Many other options being brought up to help keep Radford under control that weekend is to hold safety meetings, encourage students to get in touch with their realtor to find out what is acceptable on the property and emptying trashbins before the weekend begins. |
