Radford University will host an opera for children on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. "The Emu's Tale," directed by Clarity James, is an opera for all ages to enjoy. The plot revolves around an animal shelter which is dramatically changed with the addition of an opera singing emu. Originally written by Kathryn Garland Obenshain, "The Emu's Tale" is about love and respect not only for people, but animals as well. The opera touches on many issues dealing with animal treatment. For this reason, there will be donations taken before the start of the show in the Preston lobby for the Humane Society. Animal treatment has been a major issue throughout the world for years. The United States began their chapter of the Human Society in 1954 and have been working to better the treatment of animals all over the world ever since. "I think that this opera is a great idea to let children know about animal treatment at a young age. It's an issue that is overlooked quite a bit, and it's time to let people know how to help and give them a chance to help," commented Kate Saul, junior at RU. For more information on the opera and what type of donations to give, please contact the music department at (540) 831-5177. |
