Do you want to place your mark in Radford history? Well, here's your chance. Starting now, RU is looking for a new design for our school mascot. Keeping with the tradition, the mascot must be of a human highlander wearing a kilt and must display the Radford Tartan.

RU's SGA is organizing the search for the new face of RU. Although most of the main aspect of the highlander must stay the same, artists can add a touch of their own creativity with all the extra aspects of the highlander. RU students are encouraged to get creative and show the true Radford spirit. RU's highlander mascot can be found walking around during the Highlander Festival and cheering on the crowd at many sporting events. RU adopted the highlander as its mascot in 1978 and also chose the school colors to be red, navy blue and forest green together to form into the tartan plaid that we know today.

The Scottish immigrants that settled in and around Radford nearly 300 years ago were given the description of "firmness of decision, resourcefulness, ardor in friendship, love of country and a generous enthusiasm." This is how Radford would like to be viewed along with RU students.

If you are not an artist, the SGA is still pushing for students to submit any other ideas to raise the school spirit and bring the school together. All submissions and ideas are due by Wednesday, Dec. 1 in the SGA office in the Heth Student Center. Electronic submissions are to be e-mailed to sga@radford.edu.
