This weekend marks that time for your parents to find an excuse to come to Radford to check up on you. Family weekend, beginning Oct. 29, involves many different events to let parents know what RU stands for and what they have in store for their college kids. You may be wondering how exactly to fill the time for an entire weekend with family events that your parents might enjoy. From 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday there will be an early bird breakfast served in Lounge A and C in the Heth Student Center. Check-in for family weekend starts at the beginning of breakfast and lasts till 2 P.M. Parents might be interested in attending an information session on how to get involved in Heth Lounge B. For those who are up for a more hands on Radford experience, many activities will be going on throughout the day. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a Single Elimination Billiards Tournament held in the recreation area of Heth Student Center. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CAB will be hosting a chili cook-off featuring a mechanical bull. Following the cook-off there will be the Family Weekend Banquet which will go from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. If your family is interested in country music, CAB is sponsoring an Emerson Drive concert starting at 8 p.m. featuring Jedd Hughes. The concert will be located in Preston Auditorium. For ticket information, go to the CAB website. For those who are not into the country music scene, like every weekend, CAB will also be showing "The Bourne Supremacy" in McGuffey Hall, room 203. On Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., the family can go to the Muse Banquet room for Family Weekend Sunday Brunch. RU's Student Activities Board put together the majority of these events, along with help from CAB. There are of course other things to do in the town, so give your family a chance to see what the students get to see all the time. |
