The NBC network suffered tragedy this past week when NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersols' plane went crashing down. Early Sunday morning, the eighteen seat charter jet took off with six passengers on board. The passengers included Dick Ebersol, his 21-year-old son Charlie, 14-year-old son Edward, and three crew members.

Two of the crew members perished in the crash, along with Ebersol's son Edward, whose body had not been found after many searches of the crash scene. The youngest sons' seat could not be found in the ruins. A witness saw Dick Ebersoland son Charlie pulling themselves from the crash site. The crash occurred at Montrose Regional Airport in southwest Colorado. The plane took off after a snowstorm had eased up, while the area was still filled with fog. There is still no word as to if the weather played a key factor in the crash.

Ebersol has been a key player in NBC for decades. Appointed the network's director of late-night programming in 1974, Ebersol made a name for himself early on. In the early 1980s he replaced "Saturday Night Live" executive producer Lorne Michaels for a short period of time. Ebersol has been especially committed to the Olympics and keeping it on NBC.

Ebersols' wife of 23 years is actress Susan Saint James, who was the star of the television show "Kate and Allie". Saint James was not on the plane at the time of the crash.
