Hitman: Contracts

I did the game preview for this game earlier this season, and I stand by the premise behind that article. The Hitman series is a phenomenal look at the life of the underground hitman, requiring stealth, brute force and overwhelming tactical ability to navigate through the hordes of hostiles. This game may not take that long to finish, but the replay ability and multiple methods for successfully meeting the objective will draw players in for another round.

Doom 3

Slated to come out on June 16, Doom 3 will be a revolutionary game. For those of us who remember spending hours in front of the original Doom games, the terror and horror will be back, and this time it will be increasingly realistic. I do not have high hopes for this game to make its release date. But if it does, pick it up along with a 128mb graphics card. The only thing that will slow down this hellspawn's takeover of the gaming community will be the audacious requirements.

True Crime: Streets of L.A.

Now being released on PC, True Crime is made in the mold of the Grand Theft Auto series. However from what I have read, it sounds more intense. Martial arts fighting techniques can be learned as you progress, along with new shooting manuevers and even car driving abilities. If half of what I have read about this game turns out to be accurate, GTA may have a strong rival for my haphazard city destruction penchant that the summer will induce.

World of Warcraft

In August, the World of Warcraft is set to debut. It is a massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), much in the mold of Everquest and Asheron's Call. While I tend to think that playing one MMORPG is playing them all, I soon learned that is not the case when I played Star Wars Galaxies. Sometimes a familiar atmosphere can add a new dimension to an overused genre of video games. Until I play this one, I will remain slightly skeptical, but I would recommend this game to fans of Warcraft or MMORPGs.

Madden NFL 2005

Forget all those 989 Sports and NFL 2K-this and 2K-that. It is all hogwash. Madden has led the industry for 15 years in making football simulations, and it will continue to do so. Improved graphics, updated rosters and new franchise features are all staples of Madden games. I can guarentee that on release day that I will own a copy of this. If you are playing on PC, pick up a Playstation-style controller from Best Buy or Office Max. The game is so much better on PC anyway, plus it frees up the television for watching football at the same time.

Half-Life 2

Did you wonder where this game went? So did I. It was due out at the same time as Battlefield: Vietnam (which was mid-March) but is now slated for the very beginning of September. Like Doom 3, this keeps missing its release date. When it does finally come out, I doubt there will be much of a shortage on consumer purchases. Expect this game to move swiftly off of the shelves. I just hope that under pressure, this shooter is not prematurely released, causing extreme fan disappointment.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assualt

Let's face it. Medal of Honor still remains one of my all time favorite first-person-shooters and probably always will. Each new game brings in a host of new levels, weapons, graphical improvements, etc. This will be now different. From the screen shots I've seen, the Pacific Islands have been rendered with incredible lush greenry, tall grass, sandy beaches and plenty of room for intense firefights. This game is not slated for release until we come back in the Fall Semester, but it could be a favorite LAN game for the dorms.

While I'm looking forward to DOOM 3, Madden and Half-Life 2, I encourage people (that have an xbox) to play ninja gaiden which came out not too long ago. It's one of the most challenging and fun action games ever...Also, if you all forget about Halo 2 in September then you're not true gamers. peace!
