All this ruckus over the BCS point standings is beginning to dull the
excitement of what the BCS was designed to do: produce great bowl games.
If any team finishes the season ranked number one in both the AP and
Coaches poll, what does it matter what bowl game you play in? The only
difference is a little money and a trophy you have to return at the
beginning of the following season anyway.
Although USC is not playing in the labeled "national championship" game,
they are still playing in an elite bowl against Michigan. The
USC-Michigan game will produce better Nielsen ratings than any other
bowl game this Christmas season. And what does this Christmas have in
store for you? Santa brings you a bowl game lineup that forces the
fridge to be stocked and plentiful throughout the Christmas season, and
I submit the top three bowl games.
Nokia Sugar Bowl | LSU vs. Oklahoma
Breakdown: Oklahoma lost their one and only game this year to a Kansas
St., a team that is better than what people give them credit for. The
Sooners posted serious offensive and defensive numbers this year, not
mention points. They scored 40-plus points in eight out of their 13
games. LSU comes into this game with a 15-foot trail of fire dragging
along behind them. Winner of seven in a row and an SEC title, LSU has
two great wide receivers, Michael Clayton and Devery Henderson. This
national championship has greatness written all over it - that is, if
the Sooners do not come out flat. Prediction: LSU 23; Oklahoma 20
Rose Bowl | Michigan vs. USC
Breakdown: ĉThe BCS manhandled USC and the Trojans' plan to take their
vengeance out on Michigan. USC QB Matt Leinart is the backbone of the
USC team. With his 35 touchdowns this season, he is one of the most
dangerous QB's in college football. His favorite target, known by many
as WR Mike Williams, is just as dangerous. He caught almost one-third of
Leinart's 35 touchdowns this season. However, Michigan has a stellar
defense that can force any offense into a cellar. QB John Navarre and RB
Chris Perry are serious playmakers, and they have the stats to prove it.
Who will win the battle of the Roses? Stay tuned, and see for yourself. Prediction: ĉMichigan 31; USC 30
Gator Bowl | Maryland vs. West Virginia
Breakdown: ĉAfter a disappointing start of the season, Maryland wants to
prove to any haters out there that they are the best end of the year
team. They enter this game winning nine out of their last 10 games.
Terps' RB Josh Allen has only gotten better as the year progressed, but
it will be the Maryland D that will be the deciding factor in this game.
West Virginia has one of the nation's best running backs, Quincy Wilson.
You can beat your last dollar that this senior will won't to go out on
top. If there is one thing you need to do before Christmas, it is
writing down the Gator Bowl on your calendar. This is one you will not
want to miss. Prediction: Maryland 35; West Virginia 24 ___
