You know you can't go wrong with a $6.00 ticket (Thank you, Christiansburg, for the student discount), especially when the movie is about a paranoid, obsessive-compulsive con-artist. Am I right?

Nicholas Cage plays Roy, a man who is terribly weird and has been tricking all sorts of people into giving him their money for years. He hates: filthy rich people who are cheap bastards, direct sunlight, and any speck of dirt, dust, or phlegm. His partner-in-crime, Sam Rockwell ("Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," "Green Mile") who plays Frank, is just about the exact opposite, but they work well in their con-business.

One day, Roy loses his pills for his disorder(s) and Frank helps him out with a recommendation to a doctor. After a lot of counseling, the doctor eventually links Roy to his very own daughter he had never met from a previous marriage. Things get sticky as his relationship with his daughter gets better but his partnership slips. Once one of their gigs goes awry for involving the daughter, everything turns into a complete mess.

There's an ironic twist in the end, one you wouldn't suspect until it happens. The movie is funny and great, and realistically it shows the audience a life as bizarre such as Roy's. Nicholas Cage is contagiously insane and gives one of the best movie performances I have ever seen. I urge you to "con" your way into seeing "Matchstick Men" as quickly possible, as some freedoms can be taken from you as freely as they were given - illegal or not.
