University life can be rough at times. It is extremely hard to balance studying with things like working to earn money. However, thanks to Valerie's article this week, students who need some financial help just might have somewhere to go. But what happens when students get the money they need? We all know that students at RU head directly to 7-11. Do not pass go; do not collect your paycheck; just trade it in for some alcohol. This week, Greg begins a series of articles about this exact behavior. Another part of University life is making friends, and some of the nicest people on campus are our own Resident Assistants. How many students does it take to reverse a decision to fire an RA? Read on to find out! And finally, for everyone who has been criticizing our nation's current situation with Iraq, Jesse will shed some new light on the attitudes that have been sweeping America, and naturally, the campus of RU. Yes, University life is rough, but the writers here at Whim certianly know how to vent their feelings and make life just a little easier for everyone! Enjoy!

A Helping Hand
  Valerie Beelman | Staff Writer

I am not a recovering drug addict. I didn't have a baby when I was 14. I don't come from tragic beginnings. Programs exist to help people from tragic beginnings. But if you're an everyday Joe, assistance can be hard to find. Considering that I am able-bodied and sound of mind, why would someone like me need help? I was starting to think that nobody cared about helping people like me. I was wrong. One person cares.

The American Hypocrite
  Jesse McBride | Staff Writer

Americans seem to only be happy when they have what they want when they want it. Before the 9/11 attacks, there were rumors that attacks might occur. The public demanded Bush take action, yet he did nothing. Now, faced with another terrorist organization, Bush decides to take immediate action. Although he is doing exactly what the public requested of him a year ago, he now faces great opposition. Many of those who oppose a current war with Iraq are the same hypocrites who demanded action one year ago.

University Lacks Maturity
  Greg Woodruff | Staff Writer

It may be fun to get drunk and party, but have you ever thought of how your lack of sobriety affects others? Maybe you should. If you're going to get drunk and go out, be considerate or beware. The people who sell you alcohol hate their job enough already and don't need bad customers making it worse.

Resident Assistant Fired; Students Respond
  Jesse McBride | Staff Writer

I am a student here at Radford University and live in Muse. Recently, our hall's resident assistant was relieved of his duties. The entire floor was shocked and we responded with letters of appeals and a petition. Alan Brymer was not only our RA, but our friend and leader.
