This week is all about campus, college, winter weather, and more. We've got thoughts on off-campus living for all you students who know the pros and cons of apartment life. And we all know how cold it is outside, so Valerie has given us some great insights on winter weather and how it affects the lives of commuter students. As a special treat, Whim Alumni Melissa Conner has written a great article on what it is like finding a job after graduation, and how diffucult it really can be. And we didn't forget about all you political buffs out there either. Greg has made some great comparisons between our own President Bush and Middle Earth's evil overlord Saruman. Read and enjoy!

If you watch the extra features on the "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" DVD, one of the things you will find is that J.R.R. Tolkien did not like allegories. Therefore, "LOTR" is not an allegory. This can be hard to believe, especially since modern political leaders seem very similar to certain characters in the series.

Did They Promise Money at the End of the Tunnel?
  Melissa Conner | Whim Alumni

When we graduated high school, we were promised great futures if we went to college. When we got to college, we were told to pick majors that were something that we enjoy, something that could make us happy with ourselves after we graduated. And I did that. Wrong.

Winter Nightmare
  Valerie Beelman | Staff Writer

Snow is a beautiful thing, unless you’re an off campus student. If you happen to be one of the commuting students or faculty, then snow, sleet, or freezing rain become a nightmare during the winter months when school is in session. This nightmare begins when officials at Radford University fail to cancel or delay school until road conditions are safe again.

Off-Campus Living: Do Realtors Really Care?
  Greg Woodruff | Staff Writer

As some college students do, I moved off campus about a year ago. It was a sweet relief getting out of the dorms and on my own. I enjoy having my own room, playing music, watching TV, and playing video games as loud as I want, when I want. I have no RA or RD to obey, no rules, and all the freedom I could ask for. However, with all great things, there are problems.
