If you watch the extra features on the "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" DVD, one of the things you will find is that J.R.R. Tolkien did not like allegories. Therefore, "LOTR" is not an allegory. This can be hard to believe, especially since modern political leaders seem very similar to certain characters in the series.

For instance, our President, George W. Bush, has taken on a similarity to Saruman, the white wizard gone mad. Both are warmongers and neither give a damn about the environment. However, G.W. doesn”t seem to be controlled by any pure evil being as Saurman is, but the similarities are amazing.

Bush wants to lead this country to war with Iraq. He”s trying to continue a war his father started and ended years ago. This war has nothing to do with terrorism or the aftermath of 9/11. It has everything to do with oil, fear, and ignorance.

Iraq is one of the world”s leading suppliers of oil. This makes it a rich country with rich citizens. However, this also makes Iraq unlucky. Because of its resources, Iraq has become the target of many other powerful, greedy, warmongering nations. Right now, it is the U.S. glaring at Iraq with its greedy eyes.

Another reason Bush is taking this country to war is fear. Iraq may have nuclear weapons at its disposal. This possibility is a major problem for the U.S. If Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, how is a greedy, warmongering government supposed to invade and take it over? Iraq has the ability to bite back and this strikes fear into the heart of our president.

Before Bush came along, the economy was doing fine. Now that a decent leader is out of office, the economy has fallen drastically. Since Bush isn”t quite Bill Clinton, he needs to find a way to bring the economy back. Bush knows that war boosts the economy, so that is where we shall go.

When a country is at war, the economy may slightly rise. Reasons for this vary. One of them is patriotism of the citizens. Because citizens have bought into the propaganda of war, they become patriotic and proud of their country. Then they buy patriotic items including flags, bumper stickers, and T-shirts. Another reason that war may help an economy in crisis is the shift in factories to produce goods that will help the war effort. Even though war may help an economy, it has its own expenses.

What gives the President the right to pick a fight with a foreign leader? If the President wishes to fight with a foreign leader, he needs to go take care of it himself. Instead he sits behind a desk and orders thousands of innocent people to fight his battles for him.

There have been talks of reinstituting the draft. If this happens, we shall definitely see events reminiscent of the Nixon era. I for one will not go to war willingly. I will not fight a war I didn”t start and have nothing to do with! Bush doesn”t come to aid me in my battles, so why should I aid or support him? Can”t war just be settled over a card game, a duel, or maybe a video game?

The economy is the way it is because of Slick Willie. You think after three years is because of Bush? Obviously you do not know that much about politics. If Clinton would have took care of Osama bin Laden in 1993 and 1998 we would not had a 9/11 or a War in Iraq. In case your not informed in 93 and 98 bin Laden bombed a U.S. Embassy in Africa and also bombed the U.S.S. Cole. Clinto was to busy making hanky panky with interns. I am out.

Well, that's a well written article, but you forget many other aspects. Perhaps you should travel to Iraq and ask a random family if they've recently lost a member. 99% will say yes, and that is because Saddam is a tyrannical dictator. Iraq is a rich country, but only a few of its citizens are rich. 95% of Iraqis barely get by. Many are killed as a result of Saddam's rule. Bush was doing great as a President and the economy was recovering fine until September 11, 2001. You forgot that already? How about many of our allies, like Israel, who live in fear not only because of Iraq-funded Palestinian suicide bombings, but also for the fear that soon Saddam may be able to send a WMD over in their neighborhood? You forget that as the world's superpower, it is our responsibility to make sure things like this don't happen. Most nations do not understand why we have to occupy them. What kind of superpower would we be if we idly sat by and let a dictator kill thousands of his own citizens on an annual basis? War itself is never good, but sometimes you have to accept that it is the way to go due to irrational people like Saddam. As for the comment about the President going and taking care of it himself - you need to stop watching movies like Braveheart and Gladiator. As nice as it would be that war could be settled over a round of chess, that is not the way it happens. Of course he sends others to war. He's the commander in chief. You don't see generals fighting on the front lines! The awesome people of the military joined because they want to serve their country. It's not like he picked random people off the street and sent them off to fight. By your logic, Clinton should have went and dealt with Bosnia by himself, and Hitler should have marched into Poland alone. As amusing as it would be to see GWB crawling in the sand with an M-16, it doesn't happen that way. You can't accuse Bush of being a wuss because he's not at the front lines...someone has to run the military - not to mention the country. Accusing GWB of not fighting himself is baseless and ignorant.

You can't impeach a president just because you don't like him, he has to do something to get impeached. Even if Bush is a terrible president, he hasn't done anything yet that could lead to impeachment.

Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure I got everything out, but I needed to vent (desperately). I think Bush might not be a bad person, but as a President, he doesn't come off so cool.

Damn straight Greg. Bush is nothing more than a modern day Hitler hiding in democracy's clothing. Last thing we need to do is kill another million middle eastern civilians...
