As you may recall, I was recently employed at a certain convenience
store on
Tyler Avenue. Part of the reason I no longer work there includes the issues
you
will find in this article. These issues infuriated me while I worked there,
caused me a lot
of stress, and eventually contributed to a lack of motivation to continue
working.
What am I ranting about? The fact that many students at RU are
extremely immature, inconsiderate, and ignorant due to alcohol. You would
think that, being at a university, one would not run into these things so
often, but you may be
surprised.
As I”ve mentioned, students here lack maturity. Part of their
immaturity includes the fact that they feel the need to get drunk every
night. I don”t
know why they see this as a mature thing to do, but they do it anyway. As
much as they party, I”m surprised they”re able to attend classes and pass them.
When I worked at that certain convenience store I could expect to see
drunk students there between the hours of 8 p.m.-3 a.m. (the shift that I
normally
worked), especially on Ðthe weekend¼ (Wed.-Sat.). They made my job even more
difficult and horrible than it already was. They”d come in drunk and act
stupid, asking ridiculous questions and annoying me, my co-workers, and other
customers. They were a serious pain in the ass.
One thing most of the students around here can”t seem to understand is
that in Virginia there is a state law that says alcohol cannot be sold (or
bought) after midnight. If a store sells alcohol after midnight it will face
serious fines and lose its license to sell it. Therefore, when the clock on
the wall says 12:00 a.m., that means no more alcohol. This is not a debatable
issue.
Customers would always come in the story asking if it was too late to
buy beer. It”s not so bad if they ask before midnight or even a little after
midnight. But, when they ask way after midnight and can”t take no for an
answer, there”s hell to pay. The store manager sets the clock that hangs on
the
wall. If the clock says 12:00 a.m., that”s the final answer. It may not be
the
correct time; in fact it probably is a few minutes fast. If customers have a
problem with that they need to take it up with the store manager, not the
employees on duty.
If customers are going to come into the store drunk and act like
fools, the employees will not hesitate to call their friends, Radford”s
finest.
One good thing about working at that store is one gets to know the local law
enforcement crew and a very beneficial relationship will form. Even now, I
still know many officers by name.
So, if you”re going to party and get drunk, remember that you”re a
college
student, not a kid anymore. Be mature, considerate, and courteous to the
people who work and put up with you when you”re drunk. They hate their job
enough and don”t need bad customers to make it even worse. Take care of your
purchases before you go out. Also, if you”re an annoying drunk, don”t even
think about going across the street to the store; it could cost you.

It's ok, but I guess I figured it'd be obvious which was first due to the time it was submitted or the time on the email to whoever got it. It's all good though, don't worry about it. =)

Greg, sometimes, our stories get jumbled on the cutting room floor. Between copy editors and myself, things might get changed. In this case, sometimes titles have to be cut or altered. We do our best to leave things the way they are, and I apologize, but since it got submitted twice, there may have been some confusion as to which one was the new one. COuld be that, could be copy editing, could be my fault during production, but we'll try to keep things straight next time

Well I hope next time I can get this straightened. I submitted this twice, but only the 1st title seems to have stayed. It's supposed to be Working at 711: University Lacks Maturity. Ah well, you're in for a treat anyway, keep an eye out for more of the series after V-day.
