What do you get when you combine the server-saving
message skills of ICQ, the ease of use of AOL IM, and the coolness of a sleek
interface? You've got Yahoo Messenger and what I consider to be the greatest
Instant Messaging system around.
You must be asking yourself what makes Yahoo Messenger so special. It's
simple.
It has all the great features of other messengers without all the clutter. By
that I mean the interface isn't cluttered and things are relatively easy to
find. Seven tabs at the bottom include things such as an address book and
news.
You can easily select whether you want to message, chat or start a mobile
conversation with the tabs at the top. Things on the menus aren't too
difficult
to find, either.
Next, this beauty has little features such as text effects and IMvironments.
The
text effects are cool little things such as fading and alternating colors that
you'd do with the text if you had half an
hour to write each message. IMvironments
are something somewhat similar to AOL IM's newer feature, Expressions, but much
more developed. IMvironments create a little world where you and your friend
communicate. They can create special results with the emoticons, depending on
the
IMvironment. In addition, certain IMvironments allow you to play games.
The great thing about Yahoo Messenger is that you don't have to be online to
get
your messages and you don't get them through e-mail. Much like ICQ, it holds
the
message on a server, or something of the sort, and sends it when you're
online.
All in all, Yahoo Messenger is one of the better, if not the best, messengers
out
there. It combines all these fun elements with an ease of use that is
unmatched. It's a great service to use if you love talking to others.
