There are plenty of places to purchase DVDs online: Amazon, EBay and Buy.com, among others. After shopping around and testing the various merchants on such criteria as price, shipping options, selection and pre-orders, I have found DVD Empire to be the best among the lot.

In terms of pricing, DVD Empire is comparable to such places as Amazon, as are their shipping options. Also, like Amazon, they feature wish-lists and a customer-review system. They have quite an extensive selection in every genre of film conceivable (including quite an extensive range of science fiction and foreign filmsÉmajor points there), and all in-print titles ship immediately. However, it is with pre-orders that this site truly shines.

First, DVD Empire features a nifty pre-order manager, allowing you to keep track of all your pre-orders, which comes in handy when you pre-order as much as I do. Second, when I pre-order a DVD from them, I know I am going to get it either the day it comes out or the day after; a guarantee I didn¼t get from other places. Finally, they offer some insane discounts on pre-orders. For example, I recently ordered a copy of "The Day the Earth Stood Still," which will retail for twenty dollars when it comes out. Yet, since I pre-ordered it, I¼m paying only thirteen for it, a 35% discount.

By this point, I¼m hoping that you¼re setting your browser to DVD Empire to take advantage of this awesome site. With great prices, selection and a pre-order system that puts the others to shame, how could you not?
