Welcome back to Ask The Geek! This week the geek covers
a digital video playback problem and a handheld expansion device image
issue.
Q: All my media files are playing in black and white, regardless of
what they're playing in, be it Quicktime or Windows Media... why?
A: That is definitely a first for me, as I've never heard of this
problem before. I believe I would start by downloading and reinstalling
the .avi and .mpg codecs. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling WMP and
Quicktime; run Norton WinDoctor, reboot, then re-install. If none of that
works, you'll need to contact your local computer guru for further
assistance.
Q: My handheld is loading images from an expansion card very
slowly. Why?
A: There are lots of possible causes for this problem. The first
thing you should try is another image compressor/image client pair. If your
problem remains, and your files are as small as you can make them, you should
try your expansion card in the device of a friend who is not having this
problem. If it is slow on their machine, you likely have a bad card. If it is
fast on their machine, then your machine is either slow or broken. If you
think your device is broken, you'll need to call the tech support folk for the
company that made your handheld.
Well folks, that's all for this week! Remember to send your questions in so that we can
answer
them for you! Until next week, happy computing!
