Welcome back to Ask The Geek! This week the geek covers
a lack of e-mail formatting in Outlook XP and how to uninstall Norton
AntiVirus when it refuses to uninstall correctly.
Q: When I am on Outlook and responding to an email, I am not able
to use color for fonts or BOLD or italics or underline. I went under custom
tools and tried to add them, but it didn't work. I used to be able to use
these. What must I do to add them to my tool bar? Thanks.
A: There are a few options as to what's going on...Your outlook
is set to reply to messages that came into your inbox in ascii format (non- html). When you
reply to these messages, you will not have any formatting options. OR Your
formatting toolbar has been moved/hidden on the reply box. To de/reactivate it
when in a reply window, go to View>Toolbars> and check Formatting. If it is
already checked, uncheck it, then go through the menu again to recheck it. It
may appear beside the Send>Accounts>Save>Print (Standard) toobar. If so, there
will be a "Stack" of small dashes on the left edge of the tool bar where you
can click and drag to move the toolbar. If that does not work, you will need
to see your favorite computer guru for additional assistance.
Q: I am trying to reinstall Norton Antivirus 2003, but it won't
reinstall. It says I need to uninstall the previous copy, but I have already
done that. What do I do?
A: Sometimes when something goes wrong during uninstallation, you
will have these kinds of problems with many Symantec programs. There are
several utilities from Symantec that completely remove old copies of their
software manually when all else has failed. The utility you need is located here.
This page also gives you detailed instructions on using the utility for
removing Norton AntiVirus. Be sure you reinstall as quickly as possible to
avoid possible virus infection!
Well folks, that's all for this week! Remember to send your questions in so that we can
answer them for you! Until next week, happy computing!

You should consider mozilla.... it is, after all, the source code for netscape.

I've been having trouble w/ OE myself and I've solved it quite simply by using Netscape instead. It looks better anyway.
