Do you have someone special this holiday? Maybe you're just one of those people who don't give a rat's posterior about the sappy, over-commercialized, mid-winter love-fest. Don't worry. There are some things to love about this time of year.

  • The start of the 2003 NASCAR season. This year the Daytona 500 falls on Valentine's Day weekend. Can you imagine a better way to spend the day than watching the men and women duke it out at over 200 miles per hour? This season promises excitement with strong rookies from last year and a crop of hungry veterans who are out to prove they still have what it takes.
  • Only a few weeks till March Madness. The shake-ups in the rankings should make for an outstanding NCAA tournament.
  • Football. Even though I thought football season was over, television has been bombarded with the new Arena Football League (just in case the regular NFL season wasn't good enough for you).
  • The off-season shake-ups: the hiring, firing, and arrests of NFL will provide hours of entertainment. Don't forget to send "Thank you" notes to those wonderful players who don't have anything better to do between football season and training camp.
  • Hockey! It's getting down and dirty. Ottawa, New Jersey, Vancouver and Dallas are top teams in their conferences, but who knows what will happen between now and playoffs.
  • There are all-star games popping up all over television.
  • Spring training is just around the corner. While everyone in Radford freezes their butts off, the boys of summer will start up in sunny Florida before we can say, "Blizzard."
