This is the summer edition of Whim, so what would it be without my summer movie preview? A summer edition of Whim without my summer movie preview, that's what. There are going to be quite a few films debuting this summer, so let's take a quick look at some of them, shall we?
The summer movie season kicks off early this year, on May 2. "X2: X-men United" debuts this day. After seeing the trailers for this one, all I can say is, "Wow." I have a strong feeling this one will be better than the last. Also opening that day is the "Lizzie McGuire" movie, although, come on, which one of these two are you going to see?
May 15 sees the release of the next film in The Matrix trilogy, "The Matrix: Reloaded." Keanu Reeves, Carrie Ann Moss and Laurence Fishburne reprise their roles from the original. Much like the trailers for "X2," the ones for "The Matrix: Reloaded" have left me breathless.
Jim Carrey's new film, "Bruce Almighty" opens on May 23. In it, Carrey plays an average guy who is saddled with the power of God after ridiculing him. I haven't seen any trailers for this one, so I'm not able to make judgment, but the concept sounds cool. The sequel to "The Fast and the Furious," "2 Fast 2 Furious" opens on June 6, as does "Prozac Nation." Another sequel, "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," opens on June 13.
A week later, another comic book character makes his big-screen debut: The Hulk. The trailers for this one look neat also, and plus, it's directed by Ang ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") Lee, so it can't be that bad, right? Also opening that day is Luke Wilson's new picture "Alex and Emma."
Still more sequels: "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" on June 27, and on July 2 both "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" debut. Yet another comic book-based film, "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" debuts on July 11. Still more sequels round out July: "Bad Boys II" on July 18 and "Lara Croft, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" opens on July 25.
That's a just a cursory glance at some of the films debuting this summer. Know about another good movie? Post it in the feedback forum below! See you at the theatre!
Noticing the number of sequels, Shaun Corley wonders when they'll get around to making "Plan 10 From Outer Space."
