The increasingly popular new independent film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was a smash hit at local cinemas as well as worldwide.
When the DVD is released on February 11th, getting in line early will probably be the least of your problems. When this film was shown in McGuffey Hall the weekend of January 10th, they were still selling tickets, but you had to sit on the floor. So if you plan to own "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," I would advise camping out or getting a rain check.
In the movie, Nia Vardalos reenacts the story of her journey to matrimony through the character Toula Portokalos. Her Greek family feels that she is a bit hard-pressed for time and thus must get married to a Greek man as soon as possible. After all, a Greek woman's purpose in life is to marry a Greek boy as soon as she can so that she can make many Greek babies.
I imagine there are probably some pretty outrageous cultures out there to adapt to. However, Greek heritage seems to top the charts. Walking out of the theater after this one had me wishing I was Greek, but thanking God that I'm Irish!

Heh, maybe they should do "My Big Fat Irish Wedding." Of course, it'd be nothing but two hours of drinking, cursing, drinking, fighting and drinking. ;)
