Winter brings all sorts of great weather if you enjoy freezing yourself to death. When I am forced to stay inside because of the frigid temperatures, I usually like to rent a few movies, plop down on the couch (or bed), and watch away. The following is a compilation of "mini-reviews" of the latest and maybe greatest movies that I have grabbed off the shelves. Please enjoy and pay attention, because you might get stuck wondering what you should rent one cold, rainy night.

Blood Work
This movie features Clint Eastwood as a veteran FBI agent asked to do some private investigating of the murder of his heart donor. It turns out that the victim was killed because of him as the twisted plot unravels.

This film has an interesting plot, but definitely was not Clint's best "since 'Unforgiven,'" as one critic on the DVD case claimed. Eastwood did a good job but all other actors/actresses were rather amateur. This had to have been a low-budget film.

13 Conversations About One Thing
There are not too many big actors/actresses in this film other than Matthew McConaughey. It's an intriguing film about fate, life, and how it all intermingles unknowingly. Independent films are rapidly becoming more popular to the general public and "13 Conversations" is a good reason why.

The Good Girl
Jennifer Aniston stars in this not-too-publicized movie about a small-town girl who works at Retail Rodeo. She has been bored with her life lately, but a new employee causes a spark. However, as soon as this married woman makes a few silly decisions, things fall apart quickly.

My fiancee just had to see this, so we rented it. It turned out not being as much as a "chick flick" as expected, and ended up being a bit disturbing. If you want to see a slow-paced, screwed up movie, help yourself to "The Good Girl."

The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys
"Inventive" hits the spot with this movie, as it is like nothing I have ever seen. This movie is about a few boys in Catholic school who are not so favorable towards their fellow nun teachers. It's about growing up as a kid and the crazy things we did.

This film has a lot of imagination, especially with the comic book cartoon sequences. Also the fact that I live with a nun (seriously) really gets me going throughout this movie, i.e. "Nunzilla." This is a great movie because it is strange and way different.

Brown Sugar
Okay, I know you're thinking I'm drowning this article with chick flicks, but this movie is a pretty good one. Starring Taye Diggs, Mos Def, and Queen Latifah, this film is a story of how a boy and girl grow up together with a love for original hip hop. Mainstream and the contrary collide, while a life-long love does the same.

This is a neat movie with words from several original hip hop mentionables (Slick Rick, De La Soul, Common, Russell Simmons, and more) about what the culture is all about. If you have ever wondered what the differences between hip hop and rap were, the answer is in this flick. Good rental.
