Ten Small Things that are Right With the World
Jeff Davis | Vent Section Manager
- Nice guys can indeed make it with great girls. Congratulations, Brandon and Megan. Ya'll rock.
- I have cookies. My grandmother sent me back from Florida with a huge bag of sugar cookies and ginger snaps. I shared some with Josh Nibert, Zac Martin and his lady Sarah, and they received the seal of approval.
- Randy Brecker came to RU on Oct. 3. Randy Brecker played trumpet with Bruce Springsteen and many other jazz musicians. It's refreshing to see this and not yet another appearance by a rap group. Heth Student Center puts a box outside the Information window where you can see who's up to perform here. Exercise your right to complain and vote!
- People finally realize what "designated driver" means. Well, I shouldn't make that a blanket statement, but overall, people know that "designated driver" doesn't mean "who's had the least;" it means "who didn't have any."
- Peter Gabriel has recorded a new album. The Rolling Stone review said it was lackluster, but I'll have to check it out for myself before I make any judgments. If you've ever heard "So" or "Us," you'd totally get where I'm coming from.
- Ah, Interlibrary Loan! I was able to get a hold of a rather rare book that W.B. Yeats edited back in 1888. If you haven't done so already, go to the library site and get set up!
- The Onion exists. I have their daily calendar, and today the headline is, "Fun Toy Banned Because of Three Stupid Dead Kids." I believe that if you can't find a way to laugh, you're totally lost.
- French horns have a great side effect. You should make your lover take up the French horn. To kiss a person with French horn lips is, as Ferris Bueller would say, "so choice," and less expensive than a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California.
- Harrison Ford is either rumored to be, or will be, in the next Indiana Jones film. A strong testament to the slow but steady death of agism in entertainment. But if it was Tom Selleck, who was slated for the movies in the first place, then I might not be so thrilled. Indy would have an automatic weapon instead of a whip.
- I was able to find "The Brave Little Toaster" on VHS. This is, I feel, one of the most creative things the Disney machine ever conceived, which is a strong contrast to flatulence like "Pocahontas." Who couldn't love a talking electric blanket?
