Welcome back to part two of the DIY Speaker Series. This week we will focus on constructing the grill, caulking the enclosure, and placing the insulation.

1. One 14 by 19 inch grill cloth
2. Speaker terminals (these can be found as one unit which includes a positive and negative terminal, most often marked as black (-) and red (+).
3. One two-way crossover unit. (found in most electronic hobby shops; make sure the unit can handle the amount of power in watts that your speakers require. 100watt crossover units can often be found at Radio Shack.)
4. Some black and red 14awg wire.

The speaker enclosure you've built will have a grill cloth placed over a grill frame. The frame can be assembled using the 1x1 inch pine from the parts list. The corners should be mitered at 45-degree angles and assembled using 3d nails or corrugated fasteners and glue. Once assembled, stretch the 14 by 19 inch cloth over your frame and secure it in place using staples. You can now set the grill aside for later use.

Caulk all the inside joints of your enclosure to ensure a good seal. Keep in mind that the driver board (front) and terminal board (back) should not be in place yet. Let the caulk fully dry before moving on.

Once the caulk is dry, cut the fiberglass insulation to fit the sides, top, and bottom of the enclosure. Use staples to secure the insulation in place. You will not need to cut insulation for the driver board and terminal board.

The basic enclosure is now finished and next week we will spend our time wiring the driver board, and terminal board, and finishing the speaker.
