Technics SA-DX950 A/V Control Receiver

Recently I decided it was time to invest in an audio/video receiver to begin building on my future "home theater system." I went with a Technics SA-DX950 A/V Control Receiver (Technics is a branch of Panasonic and probably just a cooler name to promote their lighter-weight product). Before the purchase, my system consisted of: one of the first ever SONY 5 disc CD changers, two decent size theater speakers with 12" subs, and a 13-inch p.o.s. dorm room TV After buying the new receiver, I envisioned the elaborate setup that I would hopefully have soon.

When I was deciding on what kind of receiver to buy I had 2 traits I was looking for: quality and price. I found all of the above in the Technics receiver plus more. Another reason I went with the Technics was for its history; I am a big fan of hip-hop and Technics is the name synonymous with turn tables and the birth of hip-hop. Of course, just because Technics made the best turntables didn't mean their receivers were worth crap. However, I had faith.

It turns out that this receiver is one of the best, if not the best in its price range ($150 - $250). Onkyo or Denon, are probably the two best companies dealing with home audio, but if you want these you will need to pay at least $150 more.

After rigorus testing on my part - through several parties a week and many hours of DVD play, the Technics seems to be the perfect receiver for the college or even the high school student. At a mere $210 if you buy it on Half.com through eBay. So if you are interested in home audio or are looking to buy a receiver that will let you have fun and won't give you any problems, check this one out.
