Gungrave for the Sony Playstation 2
Matt Butler | Staff Writer
Gungrave, the newest mindless-action game from
Sega, has just arrived on the PS2. In this crazy little game, you take the
role of Grave, a killer who has come back from the dead to reap revenge on
an evil Syndicate. As far as gameplay goes, you basically run through corridor
after corridor, shooting anything that moves (and the occasional unlucky
wall or car). Also, you can use the coffin on Graves' back to knock out nearby
enemies. Depending on how cool you look while doing all this, you accumulate
points and rankings. If your ranking gets high enough, you get new
"Demolition Shots," which basically just make everything in the free world on your TV
explode.
Now, as I said, this is a MINDLESS action game, with the bosses as
the only things that require actual thought to kill. The massacre is
sometimes broken up by cell-shaded animated movies, stringing the story
along. The distinct anime style of this game should appeal to fans of
Japanese animation, or even cartoons in general. If you're looking to just
have some fun with a game, without having to read, or think, or anything, or
you're just an angry person in general, you'll probably enjoy the senseless
action of Gungrave.
