Jarrett's Top Ten
  Jarrett Hairston | Staff Writer

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim's sports section has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

This week, Miami and Green Bay are No. 1 in both polls.  Miami hasn't lost a game since President Bush has been in office, so I think we need to add them to the NFL next year. Since the NFL already has a team in Miami, the Dolphins and the Hurricanes could play a game for the right to represent Miami in the NFL.  The Packers have won 7 straight to put them at 8-1.  The NFL has very few teams at the top.

NFL
Week 11

  1. Green Bay Packers - The Packers destroyed Detroit last week, 40-14.  The Pack is the only team in the AFC North with a winning record. Gee, I wonder who will win that division.
  2. San Francisco 49ers -  The Niners won a close game against the Kansas City Chiefs last week.  This week the Niners will play a very upset Chargers team in San Diego.
  3. New Orleans Saints - Aaron Brooks is getting ready for this week's showdown with his cousin, Michael Vick.
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Tampa Bay was idle last week.  They get back to action  this week against Carolina.  They should win pretty easily. Keyword: should.
  5. San Diego Chargers -  They lost a tough game last week to the St. Louis Rams.  The Rams are playing great football right now.  Niners next week. Quentin Jammer vs. Terell Owens, anyone?
  6. Denver Broncos -  Wow! The Broncos should just stop playing on Monday night.    Baltimore embarrassed them early in the season and now Oakland makes them beg for mercy.  Let's hope they get back on track next week against Seattle because if not, the situation in Denver will get ugly quickly.
  7.  Philadelphia Eagles -  These guys were thrashed by the Colts.  Peyton Manning shredded through the Eagles defense.
  8. Atlanta Falcons - The Atlanta Falcons are 5-3-1.  That game against Pittsburgh was a classic.  It was difficult to pick which one should go first.  It should be a tie.  You know what, this is my poll, so it will be a tie. Just like their game this week.
  9. Pittsburgh Steelers - See Atlanta.
  10. New England Patriots - New England came from 21 down to win this game. There were some calls that went in New England's favor to help them win. When you're the Super Bowl Champs, you can get calls like that.
Top College Teams
Week 13

  1. Miami Hurricanes - The Hurricanes are the best team in the country right now, hands down.  No questions asked.
  2. Ohio State Buckeyes - Throwing a bomb on fourth and one? Are you kidding me?  That takes guts!  Those same guts are going to put Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
  3. Iowa Hawkeyes -  Iowa beat Northwestern 62-10!  I know NU isn't very good, but that score looks like Iowa was playing a Division II school or something.
  4. Texas Longhorns - Baylor was crushed this 41-0 by the Chris Simms-led Longhorns.  TU doesn't have another real test until Nov. 29 against Texas A&M.
  5. Washington State Cougars - Jason Gesser is playing pretty well.  He will be going to the Downtown Athletic Club, but he will not get the Heisman in my opinion
  6. Oklahoma Sooners - Tough loss to Texas A&M this week.  Who knew freshman QB Reggie McNeal was going to come out and play like a senior?
  7. Georgia Bulldogs - Georgia defeated Ole Miss this week, 31-19.  I guess Eli Manning can forget about the Heisman this year.  Actually he was out of the race a long time ago.
  8. USC Trojans - It will be interesting to see who wins between the Irish and the Trojans.
  9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish - The Irish have 2 weeks to prepare for Rutgers.  Beware, Scarlet Knights!

  10. Kansas State Wildcats - Iowa State has really hit rock bottom.  58-7?

Comments:
TERPS are the sweetest team in the world. They should be in your top ten. What up's with the Chokies?!?! they need to start winning games here.
