Jarrett's Top Ten
Jarrett Hairston | Staff Writer
Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season. Whim's
sports section has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL
Teams and College Football teams every week.
Top NFL Teams
Week 5
1. San Diego Chargers(4-0) They beat New England this week. That puts them at no. 1 this week. They are 4-0 and they are for real, folks. 2. Oakland Raiders (3-0) They DEMOLISHED the Titans on Sept. 30. Rich Gannon had a huge game. Jerry Rice has not lost a step.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) They are playing the best football in NFC right now. Donovan McNabb just signed a big contract and didn¹t miss a beat.
4. Green Bay Packers (3-1) Brett Favre is one of the best QBs playing today. Bubba Franks threw a perfect pass to Donald Driver. He may start getting reps with Favre.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) After their opening game loss to New Orleans, Tampa Bay has won 3 straight games.
6. New Orleans Saints (3-1) Detroit beat New Orleans this week. So whatthey are still a good team and that¹s why they are STILL in the top 10.
7. Miami Dolphins (3-1) I guess it¹s back to the old drawing board for Dave Wanstedt and his staff. This team has a very bright future.
8. Carolina Panthers (3-1)- Prior to Green Bay, the combined record of the 3
teams they beat was 0-8. They lost when Shayne Graham missed a field goal that would have sent the game into overtime.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) Fred Taylor ran all over the Jets Sept. 30. It appears that all is well between Coach Coughlin and Mark Brunellfor now.
10. San Francisco 49ers (2-1) The Niners were idle this week. I feel sorry for St. Louis. San Fran has had 2 weeks to prepare for them. Top College Teams Week 7
1. Miami Hurricanes (4-0) They were idle. Still the best in the country.
2. Virginia Tech Hokies (5-0) Virginia Tech played Western Michigan this week. The final score was 30 0. The game in 2 weeks at Boston College will be a tough one.
3. Oregon Ducks (4-0) This team was also idle this week. Onterrio Smith will get invited to New York for the Heisman Ceremony.
4. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)- Defeated Indiana this week, 45-17. This must be the year of the running back in college football. Maurice Clarett is playing very well. Now, if only OSU could get a passing game
5. Georgia Bulldogs (4-0)- They play at Alabama this week. This may be Georgia¹s last week in the top 10.
6. Florida Gators (4-1) They are playing pretty good football right now. They need to work on their special teams. Coach Zook, give Coach Beamer a call at Virginia Tech.
7. Texas Longhorns- Texas and Oklahoma will be interchangeable from week to week until they play each other. I put them at the bottom of the top 10 because neither team has impressed me.
8. Oklahoma Sooners- See Texas.
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-0) Idle last weekThis week's game is against Stanford. Go Coach Willingham!
10. Kansas State Wildcats (4-0) - They are sneaking up on some people. This week they play at Colorado. The Buffaloes are having a down year, but they will be a tough match.

Wait a second, the Pats lose a game and suddenly they're not #1 on your list anymore? Let alone ON your list.
