Jarrett's Top Ten

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim's sports section has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

TOP NFL TEAMS
Week 4

1. New England (3-0) - Tom Brady passed for 410 yars this week as the Patriots beat the Chiefs 41-38.

2. Miami (3-0) - Ricky Williams ran wild against the Jets on Sunday.  I think he's VERY happy in Miami.

3. Denver (3-0) - Clinton Portis picked up the slack for the injured Olandis Gary.  In doing so, he rushed for 103 yards.  Not bad for the rookie.

4. Oakland (2-0)  - They were idle this week.  They did nothing to lose their spot.

5. New Orleans (3-0) - The Saints come back from a 20-point deficit to beat Chicago, 29-23.  I thought Chicago were the "comeback kids."

6. San Diego (3-0) - San Diego beat the Arizona Cardinals this week to stay undefeated.  Curtis Conway had 92 yards receiving.

7. Carolina  (2-0) - They move up this week because of their win over Minnesota. They are much improved over last year.

8. Philadelphia (2-1) - Destroyed the Cowboys yesterday, 44-13.  The Eagles looked very impressive.  I still don't know how they lost to the Titans.

9. New York Giants - They have won 2 straight games after losing to San Francisco.  It hasn't been pretty but they have gotten the job done.

Top College teams- Week 6

1. Miami  - There was no doubt this year.  They beat Boston College soundly at the Orange Bowl.  McGahee became a Heisman candidate during this game.

2. Florida State -  They move up because Tennesse got annihilated by Florida.  They play Louisville this Thursday.  They will score at least 40 points.

3. Virginia Tech -  After beating Texas A&M, 13-3, at Kyle Field. Everyone is jumping on the Hokie bandwagon, again.  The Hokies played three top 25 teams in a row this year, and beat all three soundly. At Strength of Schedule isn't a problem this year.

4. Oregon -  Oregon beat Portland State this week, 41-0.  Onterrio Smith rushed for 115 yards this week.

5. Ohio State -  They fall from #3 last week to #5 this week because they barely beat Cincinatti.  I know it's an instate rival, but Cincinatti?  I know Maurice Clarett was hurt, but that's no excuse.

6. Georgia - Didn't miss Shockley too much this week because they trounced Northwestern State 45-7.

7. Texas - Texas and Oklahoma will be interchangeable from week to week until they play each other.  I put them at the bottom of the top 10 because neither team has impressed me.

8. Oklahoma - See Texas.

9. Florida - They are back in the top 10 after beating Tennessee on the road, 30-13. So I guess this means Florida will win the SEC.  Who knows?

10. Notre Dame - I like Tyrone Willingham.  He's doing good things at ND. The media just LOVES Notre Dame for some reason.  They will go to a BCS bowl if he wins 9 games this year.  Is it fair? No. Will it happen? Most likely.
