Jarrett's Top Ten
Jarrett Hairston | Staff Writer
Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season. Whim's
sports section has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL
Teams and College Football teams every week.
TOP NFL TEAMS
Week 3
1. New England (2-0) - I cannot believe that they were an underdog this
week against the Jets. They are looking to repeat this year as Super Bowl Champs and they are off to a great start.
2. Miami (2-0) - They are looking very good this year. After a win again
the Lions last week, they were still skeptics out there. Hopefully, those skeptics have been silenced after their win against Indianapolis.
3. Denver (2-0) - Beat the Niners this week, 24-14. They have an
outstanding backfield with Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson (who moved to
fullback this season), and Clinton Portis.
4. Oakland (2-0) - Absolutely destroyed the Steelers, 30-17. Whoa! These guys are looking good this year. Not bad for being this oldest team in the league.
5. New Orleans (2-0) - They beat Tampa Bay, and this week Green Bay is the victim. They don't appear to miss Ricky Williams at all; Deuce McAllister is getting the job done.
6. San Diego (2-0) - San Diego goes here because they beat the Texans and
they are undefeated. The Texans are better than some people are giving them credit for. Junior Seau wants to win a Super Bowl ring badly!
7. Chicago (2-0) - Escaped Atlanta this week when their field goal kicker
choked. Seems like they are getting wins they same way they did last
year... in the last 5 seconds of games!
8. Carolina (2-0) - Next week they will play a tougher game. It doesn't
get much worse than Detroit and Baltimore.
9. Philadelphia (1-1) - Beat Washington at FedEx field, which is a tough
place. Next week, the Cowboys are coming to town and this will be barn
burner.
10. Buffalo (1-1) - They were extremely close to winning last week and this week they beat Minnesota in OT, 45-39.
Top 10 College Teams
1. Miami - I was surprised that they didn't put the hammer to Temple.
44-21? They beat Florida worse than that. Miami will be on cruise control until they play Tennessee.
2. Tennessee - They play Florida this week. The SEC looks to be down this year so I am picking Tennessee to win it.
3. Florida State - Well they squashed Maryland this week. They have one of the fastest defenses in the country.
4. Ohio State - Washington State was overrated. Clarett is a stud RB-- he will be a Heisman contender going into next year. Hard to believe he is a true freshman.
5. Virginia Tech - Led by RBs Kevin Jones and Lee Suggs, VT is looking to come out of Texas A&M with a win. It will NOT be easy, but it can be
done.
6. Oregon - Onterrio Smith is a beast. I hope he wins the Heisman this
year. It would be interesting to see VT vs. Oregon in a BCS bowl this year: Battle of the 'Backs!
7. Georgia - They barely beat USC. They will be out of the top 10 after
this week due to DJ Shockley's injury.
8. Texas - Texas and Oklahoma will be interchangeable from week to week
until they play each other. I put them at the bottom of the top 10 because neither team has impressed me.
9. Oklahoma - See Texas.
10. USC - Beat Colorado. Big whoop. This team is pretty good and they
will play a good Kansas State team this week.
