Jarrett's Top Ten
  Jarrett Hairston | Staff Writer

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim's sports section has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

Jarrett's picks:
TOP NFL TEAMS
(From week one performances and preseason events)

1. New England - Pittsburgh got taken to the woodshed Monday night by the Patriots.

2. Miami Dolphins - I know they only played the Lions this week, but they were the most impressive team on Sunday.

3. Tennessee - They beat the Eagles... which isn't easy.

4. Denver - I was surprised to see them manhandle the Rams liked they did on Sunday.  Wow!  Denver will make the playoffs this year.

5. Oakland - 34 to 17 over the Seahawks.  Look out for the Raiders, they're my sleeper pick Super Bowl this year.

6. Washington -  Spurrier is lighting up the scoreboard... 31 points?  He probably thinks that's a low scoring game.

7. Green Bay - They did an outstanding job Sunday beating Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons.

8. San Diego - Beating Cincinatti wouldn't normally get you in the top 10, but there were so many close games on Sunday that I had to put them in here somewhere.

9. Indianapolis - Edgerrin James is back and that spells trouble for defensive coordinators around the league.

10. Chicago - great passing from Jim Miller.  David Terell is coming into his own.

Top 10 College Teams

1. Miami - beat Florida 41-16... In the Swamp. Best team right now, period.

2. Texas - I am not too impressed with Chris Simms at this present time.

3. Tennessee - Clausen is making more plays than mistakes.

4. Florida State - Looks like they have a very, very fast defense this year.

5. Michigan - Playing at Notre Dame this week, which means Navarre will have his work cut out for him against the stout defense of the Irish.

6. Oklahoma - I don't know why they are ranked so high.  Tulsa gave them a run for their money and Alabama could have won that game if they wanted to.

7. Nebraska - Penn State will be a pretty good challenge for them this week. We will see if Jamal Lord is the real deal.

8. Virginia Tech - The Hokies were idle this week, but Marshall is coming to town and they will be fired up with another national audience watching.

9. Ohio State - They play Washington State this week.  They will challenge for the Rose Bowl this year.

10. Florida -  I feel sorry for Ron Zook.  I don't think Steve Spurrier or Vince Lombardi could have saved the Gators from the thrashing compliments of the Hurricanes.
