Doug's Top Ten
Doug McKinney | Sports Section Manager

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim Sports has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

Top College Teams
Week 12

1. Miami- Many say it's a close race between the 'Canes and the Sooners for the #1 spot, but not Mr. Fresh. The 'Canes are a better team and will show it in their Dec. 7 contest with VT.

2. "The" Ohio State University- Happy you NFL Monday Night fans?!?! Just kidding; I don't want freshmen Maurice Clarret to run all over me like he has done to 8 teams, giving him over 1000 yards on the season. Oh yeah, there are still three games left in the season for him to continue running up his total yards, not to mention the bowl bid the Buckeyees will recieve.

3. Oklahoma- The Sooners are the #1 team in BCS? What the hell has the world come to? The only win that has impressed me aside from the home win against Texas is the home win over a tough Colorado team. Yes, I'll give some props for the huge win they had over Iowa State; for some reason I just don't like them.

4. Texas- Close one with Nebraska, after an impressive win over Iowa State. Chris Simms is good. Real good.

5. Iowa- Who would ever expect the Hawkeyees to be here? They weren't even nationally ranked at the beginning of the season. Their 7 game winning streak has made me forget about their heartbreaking loss to interstate rival Iowa State.

6. Virginia Tech- I'm sorry Hokie fans, but I was rooting for Pittsburgh. I don't know which news was the worst for the Hokies this past week: Kevin Jones is out 2-4 weeks, a FRESHMEN caught 5 passes for 3 amazing looking touchdowns, or the rest of the VT schedule actually looks tough now. Sorry to spoil your holiday plans, but you gobble head fans better pray for a helluva end of season during Thanksgiving.

7. Washington State- Why do I love college football? It's matchups out west like Oregon and WSU this weekend. That's why. Who'd ever think the Cougars are contending for the national title?

8. Notre Dame- It wasn't the jerseys. I hate how all these analysts joke on the green jerseys the Irish wore; they just played poorly. That and the fact that I told you to watch out for Boston College. And Irish fans, don't worry. ND won't lose another game this year.

9. Georgia- It's about time the Bulldogs lost. I was about 2 hours away from their game with the Gators this past weekend, and I could still hear Bulldog fans cry as their national title hopes went down the drain.

10. N.C. State/Maryland- Has Doug gone crazy? Who would ever rank his beloved Terps in any top 10? Well I would; it's my top 10. The Terps are for real and look who they have lost to this year...FSU and Notre Dame. This weekend will settle if the Wolfpack, who are coming off upset of the year loss to GT, or the Terps will squeak their way into next week's top 10.
