Doug's Top Ten

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim sports has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

Top NFL Teams
Week 5

1. Oakland Raiders- The Athletics might be out, but this Raider team won't disappoint fans in Oakland.

2. Miami Dolphins- Nice victory over the defending Super Bowl champs, and there's an important game at Denver on Sunday night.

3. New Orleans Saints- With a win over the struggling Steelers, the Saints find themselves at 4-1.  The catch is: they play at Washington this weekend. Aaron Brooks and Duece McAllister better bring their A game, because the 40-10 loss they suffered last year to the 'Skins won't B(e) good enough.

4. San Francisco 49ers- Niners finally beat the Rams, after losing six straight to them.  I don't know how important that win is this year though, because look at the 0-5 Rams: they suck.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Got the best over former teammate Warrick Dunn.  At 4-1 on the year, the Bucs are looking pretty sharp but must get ready for their trip to Philadelphia (Oct. 20).

6. Green Bay Packers- What a performance by Brett Farve.  It's safe to say he is the best quarterback in the nation.  Actually I think it's been safe to say that for the past couple years.

7. Denver Broncos- Improved from their Monday night loss in Baltimore.  The win over the then undefeated Chargers has to rebuild their confidence.

8. New England Patriots- Sure not looking as hot as last year, but they're still a brilliant team.  A win over Green Bay on Sunday would be huge.

9. Philadelphia Eagles- So the Eagles have taken care of the Redskins and the Cowboys but are having a tough time with the AFC teams (except for Houston, but come on now).

10. San Diego Chargers- So Marty finally loses a game.  How come you couldn't produce an early winning streak like that for the 'Skins, eh Marty?

Top College Teams
Week 7

1. Miami- Enjoying the #1 spot until FSU comes into town this week as well as VT (Dec 7) in what could be the games of the year.

2. Texas- This Saturday is home against Oklahoma:  should be a good weekend of football.

3. Virginia Tech- Should have an easy time with BC, but I wouldn't sleep on the Eagles.

4. Oklahoma- Like me and my man Jarrett have been saying: see Texas.  This week will answer a lot of questions.

5. Ohio State-The fourth straight game for rushing over 100 yards erases the fact that true freshmen running back Maurice Clarret had three fumbles in the game with Northwestern.

6. Georgia- Surprised me with their win over Alabama.  I finally respect the Bulldogs.

7. Notre Dame- Fighting Irish faught their way threw a win over the coach's old team.  Is it just me or will Tyrone get coach of the year award?

8. Oregon- Opened up the Pac10 season with a win over Arizona; the Ducks now have to travel to Cali to face a tough UCLA team.

9. Florida State- The win over Clemson was very important.  The Noles need to forget about their loss in Louisville and play their best game of the year in Miami this weekend.

10. N.C. State- Two back to back ACC teams make up an interesting Top 10, huh?  The Wolfpack are 6-0 and have Phillip Rivers as their quarterback. Need I say more?

VT Chokie Fans everywhere are now wetting their pants and putting all those t-shirts and orange hats back in the closet to collect dust for another season. They know the infamous "Hokie Slump" is here. What a minute, its not a slump. They actually are going to play REAL college football teams!
