Doug's Top Ten
Doug McKinney | Sports Section Manager

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim sports has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

Top NFL Teams
Week 5

1. Oakland Raiders- So everybody is keying on the Oakland baseball team, but the Raiders have a better chance of bringing home a championship than the A's do.

2. New England Patriots- A loss to a tough San Diego team shouldn't bring their spirits down.  Their spirits better not be down; they face Ricky Williams and the Dolphins this weekend.

3. Philadelphia Eagles- Donovan has been eating his chunky soup, as the Eagles are the best team in the NFC.

4. Miami Dolphins- Their D better be ready for the Tom Brady Bunch and the Patriots. If not, Williams' performance won't mean squat.

5. San Diego Chargers- They're undefeated, which is hard to believe, under a coach who lost his first five games last year...but what is even more amazing is LaDainian Tomlinson.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- The loss to the Saints was tough, but the Bucs bounced back to beat three teams who have a combined win total of one. Their trip to Atlanta this weekend will the be first test and will give the Bucs their first shot against their old back Warrick Dunn.  Warren Sapp vs. Warrick DunnŠsounds like a good match-up.

7. New Orleans Saints- It's hard to lose to the Lions.  Real hard.  A win over Pittsburgh should happen and should erase the memory of the loss to Detroit.

8. Denver Broncos- Maybe the Ravens arenšt that bad?  Nevertheless, Broncos can never have the same first half as they did in Baltimore, or game over for them.

9. San Francisco 49ers- If the 49ers don't beat the Rams this year, they never will.  This is their best shot at wiping away that six game winning streak the Rams hold on them.

10. Green Bay Packers- Wideout Terry Glenn has migraine problems, but the Packers have bigger worries then thatŠthey play at Chicago.

Top College Teams
Week 7

1. Miami- Enjoying the #1 spot until FSU comes into town (Oct 12) as well as VT (Dec 7) in what could be the games of the year.

2. Virginia Tech- Getting closer and closer to the December date with the Hurricanes.

3. Texas- Longhorns are proud of their blowout wins, but have a tough schedule ahead with games against Oklahoma, K-State, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Texas A&M.  Ouch.

4. Ohio State- Buckeyes=Maurice Clarett.  Clarett= Good.

5. Oklahoma- As my man Jarrett always says, see TEXAS.

6. Florida- Rex Grossman versus Eli Manning.  We have a great weekend of football coming up.

7. Florida State- The wet loss to Louisville left the 'Noles hanging dry. The need to prepare for Miami (Oct 12) and Notre Dame (Oct 26).

8. Oregon- Quack, Quack, Quack.  Pac 10 action is in full effect, will the Ducks get the last Quack?

9. Notre Dame- Hero coach Tyrone faces his old Stanford Team in South Bend this weekend.  Cue in the "Isn't it Ironic?  Donšt you think?"

10. Tennessee- The Vols let go of the Florida loss they suffered with a win over RU (Rutgers U, not Radford), but the Vols have to travel to Georgia to see if and who will let the dogs out.
