Doug's Top Ten
Doug McKinney | Sports Section Manager

Welcome to the 2002-2003 football season.  Whim sports has compiled a group of our own columnists to pick the top 10 NFL Teams and College Football teams every week.

TOP NFL TEAMS
Week 4

1.New England Patriots - I stand by my case: If this team is not the first on your list, you aren't a football fan.

2.Oakland Raiders - Took last week to relax from their win against Pittsburgh in Steel City and now prepare for the always tough Tennessee Titans.

3.Miami Dolphins - I thought the Jets were supposed to be contenders for AFC East Title?  Well, no matter what the case is, the Dolphins are good. Now that guy in the NFL shop commercial has the right to cheer for the Dolphins in front of all those Jets fans in that bar.

4.New Orleans Saints - Came back from being down by 20 to beat da Bears. Aaron and Duece are really making names for themselves.

5. Philadelphia Eagles - Destroyed their rival Cowboys.  They have to play them twice?  I feel bad for the Cowboys.

6. Denver Broncos - The undefeated Broncos, with wins over San Fran and St.Louis already under their belt, showed they are serious with that win over an improving Bills team.

7. Chicago Bears - Losing that kind of lead is very sad.  But then again it was to New Orleans, one of the NFL's hottest teams.

8.San Francisco 49ers - Good win over a shaky Skins team, there definitely was something going around in San Fran, and I don't think it was just the flu--it was Terrell Owens with that 38 yard run.

9. Carolina- They already have more wins then they did last season. Rodney Peete is on his fifth team and it's about time he gets to shine as the starting QB.

10. San Diego Chargers - Last year around this time they started losing so I took them out of my Top 10.  Yeah so they are undefeated, look who they played: the Bengals, Texans, and Cardinals.  Their "first game" of the year is at New England this Sunday.  There goes that undefeated record.

Top 10 College Teams- Week 6

1.Miami - The 'Canes put a good Boston College team away in the second half after a very close first half.

2.Florida State - How did the 'Noles let Duke get more points then they let my Maryland Terps score?  It's only a joke they are that damn good.

3.Texas - Simms just keeps building up his Heisman resume to go along with his draft status, but Longhorns back Cedric Benson is building a nice of his own, running the ball 37 times for 160 yards last week.

4.Virginia Tech - This could be the year where the Hokies win it all.  VT pretty much has Boston College and UVA to prepare for until their real test comes up at Miami on Dec. 7.  It could turn out to be the game of the year.

5.Oklahoma - Need to focus on Texas (Oct 12) and Iowa St (Oct 19) in order for them to get a BSC berth.

6.Ohio State - Almost had a hard attack by barely beating Cincinnati. Clarett is resting from his surgery, but no need to worry as Ross had career-best 130 yards rushing last week.

7.Florida - The Gators gained a lot from their win against the Vols: They're back on the right track, got revenge from their lost to the Vols last year and they learned that they can play in the rain.

8.Notre Dame- Ranked in the 10 spot for the official polls, there is no other team out there that deserves to win a championship after what has happened this past year.  Coach Tyrone is the man.

9.Oregon- Onterrio Smith will be the next Duck Heisman candidate.

10.Tennessee- Lost to a good Florida team; the Vols need to be ready the next time GameDay comes in, especially when Miami comes into town in early Nov.
