Return of the Son of Staffer's Picks
  Zac Martin | Staff Writer

Once again, Whim faithful, I Zac Martin pledge weekly to give you insight into the listening habits of the motley crew (crue?) that present this wonderful publication to you.  As always, I present the names, picks, and why they are listening.  Please enjoy responsibly and by all means tip your bartender.

Doug McKinney, The Fresh Overlord of Sports: 2 Skinnee J's - "Volumizer" "An underground band that is slowly becoming famous. They kick ass."

Steve "El Dogg Magnifico" Glassbrenner: Reel Big Fish - "Cheer Up" "I like lots."

Matt Witherow The new guy, but not like the terrible movie: Phish - "Riff" "Good Stuff."

Amanda Poore, P.R. princess: Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Simple Man" "Beautiful."

John Cordiano, mercenary justice: Led Zeppelin - "IV" "John Bonham is king."

Jeff Davis, flim-flam firebreather: "Permanent: Best of Joy Division" "The only goth group I'll ever care about."

Jonathan Jackson, no relation to Joe: Sisters of Mercy - "Some Girls Wonder" "Mopey me."

Lucy Hillman, all new for 2002: Blind Melon - "Nico" "Good music for whenever, however, whatever."

Adam Long, tastes great, less filling: Incubus - "Morning View" "Good--why else would I listen to it?"

Brandon Faust, sold his soul to Rock n' Roll: Jason Mraz

Shaun Corley, grizzled old man from down the hall: The Lawrence Arms - "Apathy and Exhaustion" "Zac said they were my favorite band, but I just didn't know it yet."

Danielle Spangler, not your mother's staff writer: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Jackknife to a Swan" "Because The Bosstones know how to tear it up."

Josh Nibert, the mystical Yeti: Reel Big Fish - "Cheer Up" "The horns are weaker on this album, but it's as catchy as anything they've ever done.

Zac Martin, Y(our)H(umble)N(arrator): Dillenger Escape Plan feat. Mike Patton - "Irony is a Dead Scene" "Take the craziest hardcore band, put the craziest man is rock n' roll at the helm, give them four songs and make one of those songs a creepy Aphex Twin cover.  What's that get you? Committed, but also a fantastic EP."
