Now that more than six months have passed since September 11th, what have we learned about our country and ourselves? What do you think of the overflow of sometimes overwhelming patriotism? Where will Operation Enduring Freedom go from here? How are the resulting changes in domestic policy going to help and harm us? "Operation Enduring Freedom" isn't going anywhere unless Americans tire of the everyday news of our progress. It's amazing to think that we could care less about the US troops fighting over in Afghanistan. But at the same time, it's equally amazing to think we could care less about "another" space shuttle launching into the heavens. NASA's seen this kind of apathy before, and I think we may unfortunately see it again soon.
Don't get me wrong here, I think it's a noble cause, and I think it's a battle worth fighting, but I know that it's one that will never be won. There will always be greed. There will always be hate. There will always be injustice. Therefore, there will always be terrorism. We can jail/kill as many terrorists as we can gather, but I don't think we'd ever see the end of it. Hell, we've had our own (US) terrorists (McVeigh for example) and we can't even keep them from blowing up buildings.
It's an endless battle, but I support the cause. I think it's a noble one. And seeing other countries unite for this common cause is inspiring.
