Ask The Geek
Kevin Martin | Tech Section Manager

4/19/02

This week our geek answers lots of different questions.

This week the Geek is pleased to answer an avalance of questions. Since this is the Summer Edition of Whim, you will not see fresh questions and answers for a couple months. However, the geek gets no rest, and will answer your questions through the summer, and publish them in the fall. Happy Computing!

Q: Why do Geeks like Code Red so much?
A:
When you ask about Code Red, I hope you are referring to the wonderful red colored beverage made by Mountain Dew, and not the nasty IIS infecting worm that spread rampantly a few months ago. To those who aren't initiated, you should know that sugar, pizza, and caffeine are the staples of life to any Geek. Classical Mountain Dew contains 2 of the 3 staples, in high quantity. We as geeks were getting bored, so we begged, and recieved a new version of Mountain Dew, this one with a kick of cherry flavor and red coloring. Thus, Code Red was born and Geeks everywhere were appeased.

Q: What is this "livejournal" thing?
A: Aaaahh, someone who has not read this column! Livejournal is an online website where you can type and post your personal journal. "LJ" features security levels allowing you to permit only who you want to see your journal, if anyone at all. You can find out how to sign up at www.livejournal.com

Q: I need a new computer for $900-1200. Should I buy a new Gateway?
A: Absolutely...if you want to waste your money! The Geek's favorite PC maker, Dell Computers, sells machines as cheap as $700, though you really should look to spend just over $1000 for a respectable machine. Obviously, the more you can spend, the better you get.

That's it for this week. Don't forget to send your questions to us at Whim. Be sure to put in "Ask the Geek" as your subject line so that the Geek gets it! Happy Computing, and I'll see you on the Net!
