This week our geek answers a question about Modem Blaster problems, and why he think's computers should be required for some majors..
Q: After installing my modem blaster, I'm receiving a blue-screen error.
A: The modemblaster is most likely using software that is incompatable with the strict software envrironment of Windows NT, et. al. Solution: uninstall modem blaster and modemblaster software. The overall performance difference in your connection speed, you will just have to live with untill you can afford DSL or Cablemodem.
Q: Why do you feel computers should be required for some majors?
A: With tuition ever increasing, including an approved 9% hike for in-state students, Radford U. will continue to compete more and more with other Universities for the best and brightest students. It's common sense that Computer Science students spend hours every week at their computers. Obviously these students who invariably buy their own machines deserve financial aid benefits for their pricey "textbooks." But also consider the plight of English and Business Major's who write significantly higher numbers of reports then the average student. Financial assistance via Financial Aid for these students would be fair, and equitable. It's no secret that Va Tech has required computers for their Business and C.S. majors for years. Must Radford always be on the tip end of the hog's tail when adopting coming trends in education?
Q: Why are you running for SGA?
A: Aaahhh, to keep a long answer short, I'm running for SGA because they are gaining more and more power over how your student fees are spent, and I want students to have a new, fresh voice on this important issue. Improved technology is one of my platform planks.
That's it for this week. Don't forget to send your questions to us at Whim. Be sure to put as your subject line "Ask the Geek" so that the Geek gets it! Happy Computing, and I'll see you on the Net! |
