This week in Ask The Geek, the Geek answers how to keep Word from auto-formatting numbered lists, and some Apple Questions.
Q: When I'm typing up my notes in Word XP, it tries to auto format my numbered lists. I want to do the tabs and formatting myself, how do I stop this from happening.
A: While the geek hasn't found a long-term solution asside from turning all auto-formatting off in Word (which will cause you to loose some useful features), the easiest method to put a stop to auto-formatting is to turn it off as it happens. As soon as you see Word auto-format your numbered list, hit CTRL+Z, that should immediately undo the auto-formatting, and let you go back about your business.
Q: My Apple Macintosh is showing a bomb on screen. What should I do?
A: Reboot. If you keep getting bombs, try using the Extensions Manager to turn off non-needed extensions.
Q: My Apple is frowning on startup, or looks sick. What should I do?
A: Feed it 2 tylenol and call me in the morning! No, seriously, a sad, or sick Mac has problems beyond your abilities to repair, you need to contact Apple (1-800-SOS-APPL) if you are under warranty, or the University Bookstore at Va Tech's Computer Service Center (540-231-5991), who have technicians certified to fix Apple computers.
That's it for this week. Don't forget to send your questions to us at WHim Be sure to put as your subject line "Ask the Gee" so that the Geek gets it!. Happy Computing, and I'll see you on the Net!
