Life After an ACL Tear

Francis P. Church and the Christmas Spirit
Katie Tandler | Life Section Manager

You hear it more and more every year: Christmas has just gotten too commercialized. Every symbol of the season is plasticized and pimped out, year- in and year-out, to the general disgust of many decent folk. "It's about giving," they clamor, "not getting."

A noble claim, I suppose, but in the end, somebody gives and somebody gets and something is sold and the cycle continues on, warm fuzzy generous feelings aside. The economy benefits whether they try or not. Not that it doesn't keep them from trying.

Take Your Gas Log Fireplace and Shove It
Jeff Davis | Vent Section Manager

I grew up with no air conditioning and baseboard heating in my older home. We couldn't afford anything else. When summer came, I roasted, but when winter came, I was warm. Why? I had a woodstove, and I had a fireplace. They were wood-fired, romantic, sturdy, and stunk a lot less than the gas models our contractor tried to imperialize on us with our new home.

The Moms are Making Dinner and Richard Simmons Isn't Invited
Jeff Davis | Vent Section Manager

If you have a heart condition, hypertension or high cholesterol, stop reading.

I'd like to take a second to indulge upon the virtues of gluttony. I've got several moms, and they all know how to get into my heart. Hey! Put down that scalpel. I'm talking about food. Lots of it.

 Book Buybacks Suck!
Amanda Hoffer | Staff Writer

The end of the semester has arrived. And so has the time of the semester when the bookstore extends it's arm, lifts it's middle finger, and says, "F#@$ you student!" That's right! It's book buy back time! That time of year when I can taste my vomit on the way up. When I realize I've been screwed out of money. There is just something wrong about getting six dollars back for a sixty-dollar book. I can't seem to figure out how they still manage to get away with it.

The War and You

In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the country, many people are left wondering, "what now?" Many people support a large military attack while others support a covert operation. Some support war in general and others want no part of it. Will a draft be instituted? These and other thoughts are sitting hard on the minds of students and younger adults at the forefront of a changing nation.
