Movie Review: Monsters, Inc.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Perhaps I've spent too much time with my nine-year-old sister. Perhaps I've spent too much time watching cartoons with the guy that I date. Whatever the cause may be, something possessed me to go see Monsters, Inc. It caught my eye when I first saw the previews for it at another movie. I spent at least two months awaiting the arrival of Disney's latest animated film. So of course I saw it the very weekend that it opened.

It was wonderful. Despite the typical Disney "happily-ever-after" predictability, Monsters, Inc. kept my attention through the whole movie.

As creatively as the monsters were portrayed, I thought that the little girl, "Boo," blew the monsters away. The scenes showing her chasing around the monsters, especially the big hairy one she calls "Kitty," were priceless. Quite frankly, I want one. I want one of those animated little girls for a pet.

Anyone who has seen previews for the movie knows the basic storyline. Monsters have their own little world in some other dimension. Their town is powered by children's screams, so the monsters have a factory where doors come down an assembly line, and the monsters cross into the "human world" to scare the children. This is, of course, how Boo crosses over into the human world.

Naturally, the monsters have convinced themselves somehow that children are poisonous, and are trying to hunt down Boo to destroy her. I won't ruin the rest of the movie for those who haven't yet seen it, but I will say this: Children's laughter is a lot more powerful than their screams. Those who have seen the movie know exactly what I'm talking about.

Brandon,
I'm sure they'll release it with the DVD, but if you can't wait that long, it's worth watching with an audience! :) It's adorable.

Hey, I never saw any birds on a wire short. Man, I was jipped.

I also enjoyed it. Almost better than the movie, Pixar's short about the birds on a wire was exceptionally adorable.
