Album Review - Morning View
Brandon Faust | Ritz Section Manager

With the exception of Incubus’ first album tastefully titled, Fungus Amongus, I am most joyous to announce that I possess every album of theirs. For this reason, I must say I am very pleased with their latest release, Morning View. Oh, how sweet it is.

Lately, rock band releases have been filled with garbage, doodoo rap metal, and simply a handful of ugly, angry kids screaming about their rights and what the world owes them. All of this hoopla just exhausts the ears and increases the need for some damn good rock music. Let me tell you something – Incubus has pinned the tail on the donkey (Cheesy? That’s me). Songs like “11am” and “Warning” are definitely living proof that they can create tracks that reveal a strong sense of cool, melodrama. The esoteric “Aqueous Transmission” really surprised me the first time I listened to it. The bass line and Middle Eastern strings are great touches to it. “Mexico” is also another song worth mentioning as far as chillin-mo-frillin-with-your-windows- rolled-down music goes.

Don’t let the honeyed down tunes get to you though, Mike Einziger still rocks the place with the guitar-blaring tracks such as “Have You Ever” and “Blood On The Ground.” The choruses continue to be finessed by DJ Kilmore’s sweet scratching and elementary juggling too.

Check their new album out. They keep getting better. *sniff* I’m so proud of them… Seriously, if you have an irresistible fetish for dramatic music that rocks, Morning View may just be your match for an all-day eargasm.

Yeah, I liked their hard stuff too. But change is always cool. I'll just go with what I learned in Biology today -- you can't stop evolution. :)

What happened to their harder stuff like "Nebula" or even just simple, upbeat songs like "Out From Under"? Don't get me wrong, I love Incubus, but it almost sounds like they lost their steam, and have turned their focus from rocking to becoming technically more advanced. I want to hear something with their old energy!
