As much as we don't like to think about it, it does happen. Rape, abuse, sexual assault. We've all heard the statistics, read about it in the papers, and heard countless horror stories. There are a few things we can do about it--we lock our doors, we learn defense techniques, and we never, EVER walk alone at night.

Now, we have a chance to do something more.

Next Wednesday at 7 P.M. in front of Preston Hall, BACCHUS and the Office of Substance Abuse and Sexual Assualt Education are sponsoring the event known as Take Back the Night. This event is held in order to commemorate the victims of rape and sexual assault.

The event starts off with a candle-lighting ceremony, followed by a series of speakers. Those assembled will then march through the streets of Radford to let their cause be known. Anyone who knows or has been a victim of sexual assault or abuse, or indeed anyone at all who wishes to support this cause should attend.

These organizations are also sponsoring the Clothesline Project, which is meant to raise awareness about these victims. Survivors will be writing their stories on t-shirts, which will be displayed on a clothesline in conjunction with Take Back the Night in order to provide a visual reminder of these victims.

For more information about either of these events, you can visit the table set up by Delta Zeta in the Heth plaza or visit the website at http://www.radford.edu/~sasae.
