RU Writing?
Graphic By: RU Clubs & Orgs

The Radford University Writing Center is one of the main untapped resources on campus. Located in Muse 101-C, open Monday through Friday from ten to six and Sunday from two to six, the Writing Center can assist you with any writing that you will have to do during your years as a student at RU. Whether you are writing a love letter to that cute girl back home or a ten-page paper for Shakespeare class, the Writing Center can help.

The Center has tutors available on both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and there while many are English majors, that is not always the case. All undergraduate tutors have had experience through the Writing Center or through a special class that teaches various aspects of tutoring students who are native English speakers, as well as students who speak English as a second or third language. If you find a tutor that you work particularly well with, you can request a specific tutor.

The Writing Center accepts papers via email (write@radford.edu) for those busy students who can not make it out of bed to brave the long walk to Muse. You can also make appointments through e-mail, or call the center directly at 831-6035. Appointments are preferred because the sessions are one-on-one, completely personal and private, and it is easier for tutors to understand the assignment and your writing style if they meet you in person. You don't have to be an English major or a freshman to come to the Center, although they are certainly welcome. You don't even have to have a completed paper; bring a rough draft, an assignment, or even ideas you wrote on napkins in Dalton, and the tutors will tell you what they think and give you helpful information about how to make your writing better. Don't feel as if you have to rely on your scatterbrained roommate to read over your papers when there are people on campus who are here just to help you. The Writing Center is helpful, friendly, and, best of all, absolutely FREE!

The best way to get better at writing is practice. Joining Whim will get you that practice. I know from experience. Even after Whim, in the evenings, if you write-- oh-- say about nine to ten paragraphs a night for a year and a half... that works too. :::grin:::
