Cooking with Whim
Graphic By: The Whim Staff

Dalton getting you down? Not in the mood for Muse? Can't stand to look at another Chrustie? We here at Whim have the answer. Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be providing you with some recipes for a good ol' dorm-cooked meal. So, without further ado, here are this week's recipes:

From staffer Zac Martin:

"Simple Ol' Recipe"

-one box of elbow macaroni
-one can of cream of mushroom soup
-one can mushroom pieces

In one pot, boil water and fix the macaroni. In another pot, heat the soup then add in the mushroom pieces. Drain the excess water off of the elbow macaroni, then combine the two.

Voila!

From Graphics Manager Jenn Peterson:

"Cinnamon and Sugar Rice"
(It's kinda like oatmeal, but with rice instead of oats.)

You'll need:
plain white rice - You can either cook it yourself or use leftover from chinese takeout.
cinnamon
sugar - If you're really cheap, you can use sugar packets you've picked up from restaurants or dinning halls instead of buying it.
milk

Cook desired amount of rice (if cooking it yourself). Once you have your cooked rice, just add milk, cinnamon and sugar to taste. If you're using already-made rice, you might want to nuke it in the microwave before eating. I recommend this for breakfast.

From Executive Director Rachel Thomason:

"Saucy Vegatables"
(Here's one for the kiddies who won't eat their vegetables. It's good, I promise.)

You'll need:
1-2 small yellow squash
1 zuchinni
1 onion, cut in chunks or rings
1 tomato, cut in 6-8 chunks
1 8oz can taco sauce
1 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 tps vegetable oil
1 cup shredded monterey jack cheese

Heat oil on medium-high in large fring pan. Add squash, zuchinni, and onion and stir until cooked. Add tomato and oregano. Cook additional 2 min. Add taco sauce, salt and pepper. Cook until taco sauce boils. Reduce stove to low. Top with cheese and cover for 2 min or until cheese is melted.

Note: I would recommend generic, canned taco sauce. Last time I used Ortega mild and it wasn't as good. This recipe is good and pretty healthy. Even the Whim staffers liked it...and we all hate vegetables! :)

Tune in next edition for more recipes.

I got a punch to follow Pirate Jack's cake recipe. BE FORWARNED....this punch is LETHAL if you do not provide food with it (anyone at T-bear's Halloween party knows what I'm talking about)... Get yourself a bucket (clean...preferably never used) or some sort of large container...(when this was invented..we brewed it in a large kettle). You will need ...1 bottle of decent rum (preferably dark) 1 bottle of Midori..and and 2 shots of firewater. You will also need 2 LARGE bottles (20 oz?) of your prefered lemon lime soda (Mountain Dew does not work..don't use it) and a half bottle of coke. Pour everything into large container..and stand back....if you can get close...stir with a spoon....also add some ice to keep cool...it helps water it down a touch. You have now made "Godzilla Spit". (Fire water is optional). AND PLEASE PEOPLE...this is a very STRONG drink..even though it doesn't taste like it...so make sure you serve food with it...and drink plenty of water before going to bed. (And those under age....wait till you're 21...trust me...Godzilla..seeks revenge on those underage!!!).

Arrr...I be thinkin most of ye educated land lubbers wouldn't be bothering to look me ole recipe....so I took the time to post it here. The Best Rum Cake Ever 1 or 2 quarts rum 1 cup butter 1 tablespoon sugar 2 large eggs 1 cup pecans, walnuts or almonds 1 cup dried fruit 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 cup brown sugar Before you start, sample the rum to check for quality. Select a large mixing bowl, get the ingredients together, etc... Check the rum again -- it must be just right. To make sure it is of the highest quality, pour 1 cup of rum into a glass and drink it quickly. Repeat. With an electric mixer beat 1 cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of thugar and beat again. Better check the rum to make thure it is of the highest quality -- have another cup. Open a shecond quart if neccshish... if neccshish-- if you're running low. Add 2 large leggs, 2 cups fried druit and beat till high. If the fruit gets schtuck in the beaters, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Shample the rum again, checking for tonscisticy, consticstistsney, make sure it shtill tastes okay. Sift 3 cups of pepper or salt -- it really doesn't matter a damn -- and shample the rum again. Sift 1/2 pint of lemon juice, fold in chopped butter and strained nuts. Add brown thugar or whatever the hell color you can find. Mixsh well. Grease oven and turn cake pan 350 degrees. I dunno why, itsnot my damned recipe. Pour the whole damn mess into the oven and bake at 60 degrees for 350 minutes. Check rum again and go to bed.

Hey, I like vegetables! But the Saucy Vegetables are pretty good. I'll have to make it at home sometime.
