Last week, I reported on the various rumors surrounding the new Star Trek television show debuting this fall. I stated that an announcement from Paramount would be coming soon. In a press release that surfaced last Tuesday, Rick Berman laid to rest almost a year of speculation and rumors.

The new show will be entitled: Star Trek: Worf: Starfleet Special Agent and will follow Worf’s, who will be played by Michael Dorn, adventures as a black-ops agent employed by Starfleet. According to Berman, the choice to use Worf as the show’s protagonist was: “to borrow an expression from my good friend Spock ‘logical.’ Star Trek fans the world over know Worf, their comfortable with him; he’s a brand name almost.

“Behind every good Klingon is a good supporting cast. Worf will be assisted in his exploits by an exotic, beautiful female alien. There’ll be some sexual tension between the two. There will also be three other characters too: another Starfleet special agent, a male agent-in-training and Worf’s Vulcan boss, who we’re referring to as ‘Chief.’ Just don’t call him that!”

Berman also released information about the show’s first few episodes. “The pilot, called ‘Beginnings’ will establish how Worf came to work for Starfleet Special Forces as well as his supporting cast and villains. He’ll be going up against a potential conspiracy in the higher ranks of Starfleet. Then we’re doing an episode where Worf discovers a planet divided along two sharp, distinct class lines. Investigating further, he discovers that all the planet’s inhabitants take a test on their 17th birthday. The results of the test determine whether the person is to go to college or take a job in the factory. Of course, it’s up to Worf to show the society the errors of its ways.

“As for the rest of the episodes, we’re going to have one where Worf finds a planet on the brink of economic ruin because the High Council wouldn’t give the King the increase in gold he demanded, or at least as much as he wanted. So he purposely wrecked the planet’s economy in retaliation. There’ll be a lot of explosions, chases and the like. Fans will love it. We’ve also got episodes on tap involving a plot to assassinate the Klingon High Minister, and a en episode about evil Betazoids”

Berman is confident of the new show’s success, so much that he revealed that he and collaborator Brannon Braga have already started work on a sixth Star Trek show. “We can’t say anything about it, but it will knock your socks off!”

I kinda wish this article were true. The character development on Worf in the show was extensive. They could go on and on.
