Having A Senior Moment Here
Senioritis set in about three weeks ago.
I caught it later than most. I started skipping meetings for no good reason, when it was only last year that I scoffed my good friend Brian for doing the same. What did I know? Senior moments are counting down the days to the next big assignment instead of graduation, weddings, or trips. Senior moments are looking around you and getting wishy-washy about this being the last _______ (fill in the blank here- Highlander Festival, fall, April, whatever).
Now, I can tell you all sorts of memories I have that are similar to other senior memories. I remember when the IE (Cook Hall) Building was a parking lot (rare on RU campus, I know). I remember the old Muse dining hall. I remember the fountain not having a fence but plenty of dogs. I remember when the Tartan plaza was just a really big rock. I remember living in a dorm freshman year and quickly deciding dorm life was not for me.
What has all this knowledge and all these memories gotten me? A thin piece of paper and a polyester gown with a matching, yet funny-looking, hat. It has also gotten me another year of college somewhere reasonably far away (Graduate School anyone?). It has also gotten me loads of great friends I would not trade for the world. There are people that you might see everyday that mean a great deal to me, but that I cannot take with me next year.
In high school, we had senior wills, where seniors “willed” things to underclassmen and teachers. Mainly it was time for each senior to give a bit of advice as well as memories to others. I guess as a senior here at Radford, I would will everyone reading this article a moment on the ceramic couch (don’t sit too long- there are enough rumors about that couch already). Just a moment to think of where you were, where you are, and where you are heading. Keep thinking.

Well, Jennie... it's been a good one, eh? I can remember us meeting our freshman year, and there was always this... one class that we ended up in together every semester. Now we're about ready to jump into that nasty abyss people like to call the "real world". I always thought people like us would never be ready... but I know that it's the "real world" that ain't ready for us...!
your friend,
-Grant
P.S. Anybody know why I can't access the comment section on my senior article?
LOL...I meant START skipping. Damned keyboard!

I knew you'd come around and stop skipping. What took you so long though? I had senioritis my freshman year! :) In the end, as you said, you've got your diploma (mine's hung on my wall), your gown (mine's balled up in storage), but most of all, you have your friends and together you have your memories. Those two things don't ever go on a wall or in storage. You'll have to keep them dust free if you want to be happy.
You may be eager to leave, but when you're gone, you'll want to come back. When you do come back, it'll be completely different. The memories will remain, but everything else will suck. The people aren't the same as you remembered. You will have grown a lot and you'll find yourself wondering if you were ever that immature. I was in Radford this weekend, for an entire ten minutes. It took me longer to find a parking space than it did for me to visit.
Make the most of your next two weeks, Jennie. Those of you down there who are fortunate enough to return, remember that you're in a place where time stands still, no one expects too much from you, and everything school-sponsored is FREE. That will never happen again. TAKE ADVANTAGE! Make the most of your time at Radford.
And congratulations for finishing up in four years. Congrats also for finally coming around and writing! I knew you could do it. :)
