Circle K Reaches Out
Graphic By: Jenn Peterson

Have you ever heard of the high school service clubs key or keyettes? Or have you ever heard of Kiwanis International? Well, Circle K International is the college organization of the K-family. CKI is the world's premier collegiate service organization. We are a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service, and together we make a difference in people's lives.

We are involved in several different projects throughout the year. Last semester, we helped with the setting-up of the American Heart Walk. As a token of their appreciation, we were each given a free Outback meal. We also volunteered at the Montgomery County Christmas Store where we contributed our time to taking down this year's store and preparing for the next. We also participated with the SHARE program where we prepared food for distribution for those who ordered. To help a family in need, CKI purchased a Thanksgiving package and donated it to a family in Radford. Every year, we have lots of fun in the Christmas Parade dressing as Santa's Elves tossing out candy to kids.

CKI is currently involved in weekly projects such as going to play BINGO at Wheatland Hills Retirement. This is a lot of fun and tends to be a favorite project for members. We also have Adopt-A-Spot where we have adopted a mile stretch of Norwood Street that we keep clean. Weekdays, after school, we tutor K-12 students in all subjects at the Radford Public Library.

Upcoming events include volunteering with the Kiwanis at the consession stand at the Special Olympics. All of our proceeds help support this program. We will be participating at the Big Brother, Big Sister picnic. We will be walking in the Relay for Life, which is a 24-hour walk-a-thon that raises money for the American Cancer Society. This club is a great opportunity to become involved in community service and through conventions and training rallies, we can better assume leadership responsibilities.

This year's CKI club consists of 24 members. Each member pays their dues of $35 each year. We meet every Tuesday from 7-8pm in the Virginia Room of Heth Hall. If you are interested or have any questions about CKI, please contact Monica Amburn, VP of Membership, at mamburn@radford.edu

I'm interested in joining, but don't know how much time I'll actually have for activities. Is their a requirement in order to stay in? My academics come first.
