Sony VAIO: A Hip But Costly Music Clip![]() The new VAIO Music Clip MC-P10, made by the world renowned electronics company, Sony, is an amazing product designed to give the consumer the ability to play both MP3's and Sony's own ATRAC3 file format (a combination of MP3 and the ATRAC version used in minidisc recorders). This sleek, stylish, and compact design can hold up to 120 minutes of your favorite tunes on an internal 64MB memory card. To down-load songs onto the player, you must have a USB port on your computer. The Music Clip is one of the smallest portable music players on the market, weighing in at just about 1.6 ounces with the single AA battery. Despite its size, the player is surprisingly durable and can take some shocks. As with all MP3 players, audio quality will depend on the bit rate at which the file is recorded. At 105Kbps, the sound quality of the VAIO is close to that of a CD. And to bring out the best in your music, the Music Clip has three different equalizer settings including jazz, rock, and pop. Though the Music Clip has many unique features, there are a few downsides to this innovative product. For starters, the $299 price makes the Music Clip one of the most costly MP3 players on the market. In addition to the high price, it also lacks memory-expansion options. Another downfall of this popular product is that the titles that can be loaded onto most other MP3 units cannot fit onto the tiny backlit LCD screen. In fact, the LCD is only big enough to show track numbers. The buttons on the music clip are also very tiny, and their lack of movement makes it difficult to tell if the unit has registered the user's command. The old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" is relevant in this case because the consumer must realize that even though the VAIO's sleek and silver design can be quite appealing, there are many other players out there that give you more features for less money. |
