Site Review: The Dialectizer
Graphic By: Rachel Thomason

There are times when I think the Internet has nothing left to offer me personally. I don't follow wrestling anymore, so wrestling boards are, for me, a thing of the past. There are only so many times a day I can check my email, and going to places like Amazon and ebay are pointless when you're broke. In short it sometimes looks like I'm about to take the exit ramp off the Information Superhighway. Then I find something like this.

The Dialectizer is an innovative site that just has to be seen to be believed. The brainchild of Samuel Stoddard, the site works something like this: you type in your text in the appropriate space, and then the site "dialectizes," or translates it into the dialect you specified. There are a variety of dialects to pick from: cockney, jive, moron, pig latin, redneck, Elmer Fudd, Swedish Chef and the recently added "hacker." Here's an example: I go to the site and put in my text:

Whim is the greatest Internet magazine in history, and Rachel is the best! Then I pick "redneck" for my dialect, click on the dialectize button, and let it the dialectizer work it's magic: Whim is th' greatess Internet magazine in histo'y, an' Rachel is th' best! Fry mah hide! Or Elmer Fudd maybe: Whim is the gweatest Intewnet magazine in histowy, and Wachew is the best! Neat huh?

The Dialectizer also has another cool feature: it allows you to dialecitze whole web pages. Simply type in the appropriate URL in the space provided, choose which dialect you want, and have the site take care of the rest! This feature doesn't work on all web pages, but most pages that I tried worked fine. For really comical results, find a web page dealing with something like quantum mechanics, or literary theory, have the Dialectizer translate it into "jive," and try not to laugh too hard.

It's sites like The Dialectizer that makes the Internet so great. Head over there, and try it out for yourself. Fry mah hide!
