Site Review: Customerssuck.com
Graphic By: Jenn Peterson

At some point in our lives, most of us have had the pleasure of working in some sort of business that serves the public; be it a fast food restaurant, a grocery store, movie theater, hotel clerk and so on. And at some point, all of us that have worked these jobs have had to deal with rude, annoying, stupid and downright mean customers. The most we could do was "grin and bear it." Until now.

I first heard about Customerssuck.com, whose motto is "The Customer is Never Right!" in an article in Newsweek. Since then, the site has become one of my absolute favorites on the web.

Run by "George," a Home Depot employee, Customerssuck.com is set up in a message-board format in which disgrunteld employees vent about the idiots they have to tolerate. Posters on the site have the option of remaining anonymous, as some companies have threatened to fire employees who posted messages.

The boards are divided into several sections: a general message board, a board devoted to the stupid things customers do (which breaks down into smaller sections dealing with such things as customers who can't fathom the meaning of an "express lane," customers and their bratty children, and customers who think they should always get something for free), as well as boards to vent about incompetent managers and inane company policies. There are also editorials about customer service, as well as fiction that has been submitted by visitors to the site. Recently the site expanded, adding even more message boards dealing with certain types of businesses: movie theatres, libraries, sales floor clerks, phone operators and bookstore clerks to name a few.

Naturally, someone doesn't run a site like this without receiving a fair share of complaints. That's why there is a section devoted to hate mail. "George" answers each and every criticism received and does so in a far more intelligent fashion than those who actually wrote the hate mail.

There is a lot more to Customerssuck.com than what I've discussed here, but this gives you a general feel for it. The next time you have to explain to some dope that "express lane" means twelve items or less, or have to convince someone that the burger in their hand will never look like the one on TV, head to Customerssuck.com and tell the world about it.

Corely, you always have great articles but I think this is by far your best. Not only is it well written but it is on the best subject / site I've ever seen!

I could write volumes of books on the subject of stupid customers from my job experience. However, when I was employed at Petsmart about two years ago I must say those customers where the best customers I ever had: The Dogs and Cats that came in never whined, complained, or wanted to return an items. They left that to their owners. No, the animals aside from the occasional accident on the floor were the finest customers any employee could recieve.

Yes! A place where I can vent about my job to others who feel my pain! Thanks for telling me about customerssuck.com Shaun. It was one of the sites I went to every night over the summer while I was working as a supermarket cashier.
